Saskatoon has been sprinkled with holiday magic as the Western Development Museum transforms into a captivating winter wonderland until December 2nd. We invite you to join us on a virtual stroll through the adorned trees, wreaths, and the delightful Gingerbread Lane!
In this video, we embark on a festive adventure into the heart of the Western Development Museum for the much-anticipated Festival of Trees! This annual event, dating back to 1986, not only captivates with its seasonal charm but also contributes to a great cause — the Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation.
Upon entering the museum, prepare to be captivated by the enchanting sight of beautifully decorated trees and wreaths lining both sides of 1910 Boomtown Street. For those unfamiliar with the WDM, 1910 Boomtown is an indoor representation of a typical Saskatchewan town, boasting over 30 buildings that recapture the atmosphere and style of the early 1900s.
All the mesmerizing displays, including the tempting gingerbread houses, are available for purchase. However, you’ll have to wait until December 3rd, after which you can take these festive delights home. The best part? You can even have your purchases delivered to your doorstep!
During our visit, we had the unexpected pleasure of crossing paths with The Grinch! Characters from Frozen also make appearances, but planning is key. Visit www.festival-of-trees.com to check the schedule so your little ones won’t miss a moment with their favourites. Santa himself graces the festival to capture special moments in photos, but be sure to check the times. Unfortunately, during our visit at around 7:30, we missed the chance to capture Santa’s magic on film.
While at the museum, indulge your curiosity by exploring different displays that guide you through Saskatchewan’s rich history — from the early days of settlement to the present. Marvel at “ancient” artifacts now displayed at the museum, a nostalgic journey featuring a calculator, a Discman, an iPod shuffle, and even a Shania Twain CD!
Venturing into Gingerbread Lane, feast your eyes on delightful displays like the Muppets’ Christmas Carol, the Barbie House, and our personal favourite this year, Christmas in Mario Land. Though these enchanting displays are for sale, resist the temptation; the gingerbread houses, as delicious as they look, are not edible!
Wrap up your visit at the gift shop, where festive decorations crafted by local artists await, providing the perfect finishing touch to your festive experience.
Thank you for joining us on this festive journey, and from all of us at YXE Blog, have a joyous and magical holiday season!
